BlackBerry Supports Aerospace and Defense Market with New Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) Compliance Certification

The new accreditation allows Blackberry QNX will more quickly deploy secure solutions and Secure software for Critical systems.

BlackBerry Limited (NYSE: BB; TSX: BB) (NYSE: BB; TSX: BB) today announced that its QNX 7.1 software development platform has achieved compliance with the latest FACE (Future Airborne Capability Environment) technical standard in as a General Purpose Profile Compliance Unit (UoC), enabling developers to rapidly deploy safe and secure software solutions based on the Blackberry QNX platform to deliver competitive and cost effective defense vehicle capabilities.

The FACE technical standard is the global open standard for making computing more robust, interoperable, portable and secure. Software compliance with the FACE technical standard can be used – and importantly, easily reused – by vendors and system integrators in different global defense programs. The FACE framework is supported by more than 90 international member organizations from government and industry. By achieving FACE compliance, Blackberry QNX can help manufacturers and service providers reduce procurement costs and prevent vendor lock-in.

QNX SDP 7.1 is POSIX PSE54 Multipurpose Realtime 1003.13-2003 compliant, making it easy for developers to transition to prototype designs using Linux and then move to QNX for production programs. In addition, the QNX Security Operating System and QNX Security Hypervisor are certified to the latest ISO 26262 ASIL D for automotive and IEC 61508 SIL3 for electronic systems, providing quickly achieve security certification on a wide range of systems and devices.
