The capstone project was one of the most memorable parts of the process – Sherin Shoby, PGP DSBA

Shoby has a master’s degree in commerce and over seven years of experience in the service industry. After taking a break from raising her child, her data science journey began in 2015 when she enrolled in a graduate degree in applied statistics through IGNOU and began undertaking small projects in freelance. During this time, she was looking for full-time programs where she could meet like-minded people, have interactions, and increase her network. So, she completed the graduate program in Data Science and Business Analytics in 2020 at Great Learning.

She adds, “The journey so far has been nothing short of overwhelming and rewarding. I have nothing but gratitude for all the changes I have experienced in life. I have met amazing people who have become very good friends, teachers who have been excellent guides, and to this day I do not hesitate to call and clear up my doubts and questions because this is the level of comfort I had.”

The industry-based program has broadened the spectrum of new job opportunities – Goushika Madhmitha, PGP DSBA

Madhmitha completed her bachelor’s degree in B.Tech-EEE and as a freshman joined an IT company. She became interested in the DBMS process in software development and started working on projects using ETL applications for seven years in a few organizations.

She was blessed with a strong support system that helped her juggle and focus on work, Great Learning’s PGP-DSBA course, and my family at the same time.

She adds, “I started using ML apps at my workplace, which sparked my interest in data science. I also started looking for more data science course content. , the lack of exposure and understanding of the field was one of the barriers, as not many women are working in the field of data science.”

“It’s a learning process, and you have to be very nimble in understanding the data science requirements of various industries, because the application is endless. However, focusing more on understanding the basics helps decipher and identify problem statements from any data set. I was at a point where I felt like I was stagnating in my position and was looking to improve myself without having to leave my current job, and that’s that’s when I started researching great learning,” she said.

She also said that Great Learning’s teachers and the materials provided for the program have greatly contributed to the program. The students also managed to adjust their pace of understanding, despite the pandemic. She learned under the guidance of incredible teachers; more specifically, Professor Gurumoorthy, who patiently clarified, cleaned up and revised basic concepts each time the class started advanced topics. Students also learned from inspiring teachers like Professor Ragavshyam Ramamurthy and Professor Deepesh Singh who shared their industry experience while explaining the concepts.
