USF Cross Country to kick off 2022 season at UCF Invitational






Tampa, Florida, September 1, 2022 The University of South Florida men’s and women’s cross country teams kick off their 2022 season this Friday at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Florida.

The men’s 5k race will start at 6 p.m., while the women’s 5k race will start at 6:30 p.m.

“A new season creates new opportunities. I’m looking forward to seeing this group grow over the year. There are people in this team who can succeed in this league.”

Seniors Nickolas Kamen (Naples, Florida) and Ben Kailes (Jacksonville, Florida) are the best returning players for the men’s team for this 2022 season, with the second Sebastien Edwards (Celebration, Florida). Freshman runners Tyler Wadsworth (Port Charlotte, Florida) and Jesse Benavides (Jacksonville, Fla.) are looking to contribute to the Bulls this season.

Sydney Granack (Bradenton, Florida), Kelly Lynch (Wilmington, Delaware) and Andie Gonzalez (Naples, Fla.) are the best returners on the women’s team. Cora Kolodge (Fair Haven, Michigan) and transfer of graduates Chloe Byrd (Seoul, South Korea) will make his debut for Team USF at this Friday’s Invitational in Orlando.

After the Bulls’ home opener in Orlando, they travel to Huntsville, Alabama to participate in the North Alabama Showcase scheduled for September 16.

About USF Cross Country

The USF cross country team has earned 2 All-America selections, Christina Benton in 2002 and Gray Mavhera in 1994. The Bulls have qualified for the NCAA cross country championships seven times in history program, three times for men and four times for women. . The USF men’s team has won seven tag team conference championships and the women’s team has won five tag team championships. The head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2019 and during his tenure, the Bulls posted twelve program records and an all-time best 106 program ratings. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at USF Track and Field Stadium, as well as the 2022 AAC Country Cross Country Championship at Holloway Park.
